A substantial hand-hammered copper basin. The wide, flared sides and flat bottom are typical of a French-style confiture or preserving pan. Two metal ring handles are riveted to the sides. The piece has a warm, well-aged patina with areas of verdigris (the characteristic blue-green oxidation of copper) visible on the exterior bottom.
The interior shows the characteristic all-over hammer texture throughout, and the iron handles appear to have been painted or lacquered at some point - now worn to a dark reddish-brown.
